Previous condition:
-Worked flawlesslessy for long time as I've upgraded thru the years
Present condition:
-power lights do come on
-no beeps though
-power supply fan does comes on
-cpu fan comes on
-keyboard lights flicker on as usual
-screen remains black - absolutely nothing at all
-both Hard Drives do not whirr at start up
-reset button does not activate, won't work
-won't turn off -must use power supply kill switch
-tried switching Power Supply -no change
-tried switching cpu -no change
Win98SE
CPU: Celeron 1.3Ghz using Powerleap Slotket
RAM: 384Mb of 3x128 Samsung, other?
Graphics Card: Aiw128 16MB PCi
Power Supply: 250W NSpire
Storage: WD200GB, WD 250GB, HP burner, CDROM |

If the hard drives don't spin, that means that the reset line on the
IDE cable is being asserted. This can be caused by the PWR_OK from the
power supply not going high, which would also prevent the CPU from
running. Use a meter to measure the PWR_OK signal at the motherboard
ATX power connector.

Power supply or motherboard, often it's a capacitor failure
on either. I'd normally think PSU was more common at this
point since you were using a Powerleap socket which
presumably has it's own CPU VRM power subcircuit on it,
removing the motherboard CPU power subcircuit from the
equation, BUT after a few years even that powerleap socket
might fail so it is yet another thing to examine. |
