P965 Neo Vista upgrade clean install

Have been unable to carry out a clean install using a MS Vista Business
upgrade disc.
Kept getting error:
file: \boot\bcd
status: 0xc00000e9
info: an unexpected I/O error has occurred
This is a new build and was uncertain if HD should be on purple connector or
one of the Intel sata connectors, tried it all ways; started of with 4 sata
drives and all combinations.
RAID support on board seems very limited, should have done my homework!
To eliminate a the possibility of a hardware problem I tried installing XP
pro without an F6 install on one hard drive on an Intel sata connector and
that is working.
Has anyone achieved a clean Vista install from an upgrade disc?
