I have a "house brand" lap top that is out of warranty
and need a CPU cooler fan.
Have Googled "lap top CPU fan" and get NO specific returns.
Anyone know of a site that deals in generic "lap top" parts
for DIY building or repair?
Thanks

I doubt you'll find anything unless you can track down a spares
supplier and/or scrapper machine identical to your own. This is
one reason it pays to stick with branded laptops - even a replacement
screen for most Thinkpads, for instance, can be had easily and
cost-effectively. The innards of a laptop are highly proprietary
and most components can't simply be replaced with commodity
equivalents.
Having said that, you may have luck with the major electronics
components suppliers - have a look through a catalogue for fans of
the right voltage and physical dimensions. You'll have to guess
things like flow rate (although if you're lucky you'll have a power
rating on the old fan for use as guidance), so it pays to go for
the "better" of any possible candidates you find. Here in the UK
I'd suggest trying RS, Farnell, RS and CPC. Not sure about their
equivalents in the US - I'm sure someone else will be able to offer
suggestions.

Well it looks like Alta Vista did much better than Goolge.
Thanks much for your help.

I know you're right I was just hoping I wouldn't have to spend a week end
going
through piles of salvage.
Thanks .

Of course you won't, it's not a "Lap top", unless you are
getting some kind of exoctic danacer to exercise your
libido.

The kep is to examine the mechanical and electrcial specs of
the fan and search for a near-equivilent. For example,
voltage it uses, diameter, height, RPM, and in the case of a
notebook, the housing and inferface (whether they are
one-in-the-same). |
