XP Home.....
The hard disk is showing up in task tray as a removable device.
???
I have notice this on the last 2 boards I have setup ....
rolling back the driver takes it off the task tray...

anyone else know what this is all about???

SATA is a hot pluggable technology. It would have shown as
hot pluggable when SATA 150MB/sec was first introduced, but
the drivers and software weren't ready. The idea was, when
SATA 300MB/sec interfaces were introduced, that they would
all support hot plug (or "Safely Remove").

You don't have to worry about the boot drive being
removable, as there would be "busy files" that would prevent
a "Safely Remove" from working.

And there are probably recipes around somewhere, if you want
to remove the icon. For most people, having the icon around
is just a nuisance.

When a computer has an ESATA plug on the back, is an example
of where you want the "Safely Remove" icon to be present.
Some computers use an external ESATA plug, to support easy
backups with an external enclosure. ESATA has much better
transfer rates than a USB2 enclosure.
