Hi,

My computer was struck by a power surge. Now when I power it on the power light comes on and it beeps, but the monitor says it is not connected. Also the keyboard lights and mouse lights do not come on. Not sure what is the matter or how to test. Any suggestions?

Unplug the power cord for about 3 minutes and try again. Then you have choices, try a new power supply unit, reboot the bios by removing the coin cell for about 3 minutes...

NOTE:

If you do this you will have to reset the bios in the bios set up screen as it will be reset to it's default setting.

These are the first steps I would be tempted to take, any surge could easily corrupt the bios chip and a re-set is often whats needed.

You say it beeps, would this be a single beep or a series of beeps indicating an error code? If it's a series of beeps check the RAM and graphic card.... you will get bios boot and be able to access the set up screen with just the CPU, RAM and graphic card all others can be removed inc. the hard drive.

If a power surge due to a lightening strike try removing the modem and then trying in one case all that it effected was the PCI dial up modem.
