Its an NEC ND-3550 DVD+/-RW drive. Windows XP SP2 still recognizes it
as a DVD-RW without a disk inserted, yet when I put a DVD into it,
then explorer shows that it is a CD! Nero will no longer write
anything to DVDs as it thinks that there is a cd inserted in drive. So
it tells me that a DVD is needed, when it IS a DVD! Maybe it would
still work OK with CDs...but I don't have an CD-RW to try that right
now. Device mgr. shows no problem. I guess my DVD burner has gone
FOO-BAR?

What does Nero InfoTool have to say about the drive? Try it empty, with
a CD inserted and with a DVD inserted.
