Agreed, no fan stuck on with permanent magnets could
possibly be detrimental to a hard drive sitting behind it.
The larger problem with magnets is if they were strong
enough it could interfere with proper rotation of the fan
itself, and that a magnet has strong attraction on one plane
but the whole fan could still slide if it isn't perfectly
balanced. Plus, it's an unnecessary expense, there should
be no need to remove a fan as even if it needs cleaned out a
small paintbrush can do that well enough. Some of the dust
would be brushed into the system, but if the fan has this
dust all over it, the dust is bound to be past it in the
system too... unless it was some ill-conceived setup that
put a filter panel after the fan instead of in front of it. |

Let's think a minute here. WHY don't we want to mount a magnet inside a
computer case where we keep magnetically coded data on the harddrives...?

yes but not the size this would need to hold a fan securely in place.....

Tie wraps work fine when you need to put a fan somewhere. It seems there is
always a place to connect a tie wrap.
