My current rig is an intel D975XBX board, an intel Core 2 e6700, an ati Radeon x1950xtx 512, and I have 2 gig of Geil DDR-800 ram.
I dont know the technical terms so bear with me. On the mobo there are 4 ram slots, two directly adjacent to each other then a space then another two. Lets say these are 1a1b then 2a2b. I was under the impression that with the new boards the best way to run ram would be to put a stick in 1a and 2a, this is also the way it came. My problem is if I slot both sticks of ram, into 1a and 2a, I eventually crash after an hour or so. But if I slot them next to each other, in 1a1b, it runs. I know it is not the memory or the slots because I have tested them all independently, they work. Does anybody know the problem I am talking about or does the performance gain by running them the other way even matter.
Also, could someone briefly explain how to turn up the voltage to my CPU core? |

From what you said, I think the best way to configure your RAM is with a stick in 1a and 1b. I know that when you have two slots, you want to have the same size in both, but i'm not sure what to do with four. Either way, if it works one way, you shouldn't worry about it (unless you are planning on filling up all four slots - then you might have a problem).
As for upping the voltage to your CPU...do you mean overclocking it?

As for upping the voltage. No, I am not trying to overclock but it might be the same technique. The intel D975XBX board comea with some software. One of the programs is desktop utilities software, which I recently installed. Immediately after it started running i got a warning message. the message says that my cpu core voltage is too low. The monitor shows that my cpu core is averaging around 1.2v. The hardware monitor also says that it should be +2.05v. I looked around the internet but cant find any definite instructions on how to change the voltage. I thought it might be on the advanced tab of BIOS but im not sure and dont want to mess with it until I have good instructions. Is the low voltage a hardware problem or can I turn it up easily?
Should I turn it up? Is my system a good one to overclock? Thank you
