I just reinstalled XP on a newly formatted drive. Before the format
the computer showed a fire-wire connection and an internal LAN
adapter.

Now I only have the fire-wire connection listed in Network
Connections. I installed the drivers from the IC7G disk but still no
on-board LAN listed.

Any suggestions please?

What do you see in the device manager for this?
