Do you have a DSL or cable modem attached to your DI-524? If so, you need to make sure it rebooted properly and your Internet status light is green, or whatever parameter it uses. THis can take as long as 15-20 minutes. Then...

Reboot your computers.

Unplug your router for 10 seconds. Then, plug it back in and let it run.

Since you write that you have already tried rebooting... if the above steps fail, then you should also try running IPCONFIG from the DOS command window (Start/Run/command {enter}

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ipconfig.mspx?mfr=true

Relevant documentation for IPCONFIG is linked above.

What to do: From the C: prompt, you should run IPCONFIG/RELEASE and then IPCONFIG/RENEW to straighten out your system.

HTH, let us know!

Oops, so sorry for deleting it, I thought it was a spam. The username just looked as it was created by a spam bot. We are constantly under attack by all kinds of spammers, we are deleting tens of new spammers per day and that's why sometimes the mistakes are being made.

Once again, I sincerely apologize about this incident. frown

I have tried to restore the message but to no avail. The new board software is going to solve the issues like undeletions and spam management. The much better vbulletin based board is going to be in its beta version in the second half of March - please stay tuned!

No problem I just reregistered.
Ok Guy, I have tried everything that you said and rebooted the way you stated and then did the ipconfig and my wireless router is still throwing a fit.

my cable modem works just fine. On my router the status light keeps blinking rapidly as well as the WLAN light and port 1.

AT this point Im not to sure what is wrong with the router. I have tried everything and unfortunately cause my dumb butt bought it off of ebay, dlink said it voided the warrenty so Im stuck.

Now if you could suggest a router to buy at my local store I would appreciate it.

Thanks again

I...use a DI-524. Mine blinks like crazy too, but it works.

Are you able to access the router itself? Can you inspect its settings? Instructions should be in your manual. Fixing those settings could be the answer. Can you send your router settings (IPs, SSID channel, Firewall status, etc)?

Can you try a firmware update?

Otherwise, off to your favorite office store with this weekend's coupons, if you are convinced your router is toast.

Good luck.

LOL I really dont know how to get a firmware update for it when I cant get it to go online. It's funny cause it's telling me that I have a signal but I cant get the browser to load.

I will check the dlink manual on the cd, cause a book didnt come with this, just a cd, and see what it tells me. I may have to spend the weekend reading again.

I have done that thing where you put the ip address in the search engine and put in a name and password. I have run that and it tells me that I am connected just cant figure out what is blocking it.

But thank you and I will keep you posted.
Just so you know I really dont think it is a bust I just get frustrated cause I cant figure these things out sometimes.

Open a browser instance and type: http://192.168.0.1/

Can you access the router console?

Run the setup wizard, then check status for problems.

HTH!

Thanks Guy,
I was able to do that, and it said that there was no problems. But now I cant access the console at all. So a friend of my son's thinks it may be the laptop itself. At this point Im not sure.
My laptop says it's connected but can not see the internet. Dont quite understand that.

Thanks again for all your help

A power spike could have damaged the network adapter.

Go into your hardware configuration (Control Panel / System icon / Hardware tab / Device Manager) and look for your network adapters.

Make sure there are no conflicts or problems.

Hi Guy
I just found out that my router is not configured properly. But I cant get dlink to tell me what to do to configure it cause the warrenty is voided. They want me to play 80.00 to tell me how to configure it. I just think that is a little to much right now for me. So not sure what to do.

At least I know my computer is not at fault.

Thanks again,

I am sure we can figure something out for free. I am away from my router, but will get to you ASAP. Hopefully someone else can jump in on the thread to help you configure it.
