I purchased a GM5424 duo-core desktop last month which came stock with 2GB
of RAM and a nVidia 7300LE card with 64 MB onboard RAM and up to 256 MB
shared memory. I replaced the video card with a nVidia 7600GT with 512MB of
RAM and two additional dual 1GB memory sticks from Micron.

When I look at Windows info, Everest Ultimate, PC Wizard and other like
utilities, it states I have 3328 MB of RAM. Only Sandra Professional XI Sp1a
shows the memory correctly, but in a different way. It shows all four banks
with a 1 GB stick.

Incidentally, the figure is 512 + 256 from what it should show. It deducted
the new memory total (512 MB) from the available RAM. Prior to this, the
info was correct as it deducted 256 MB from the 2 GB total.

The nVidia Control Panel and the "crippled" BIOS of this Intel 965OT board
offers no way to change or eliminate the "shared memory" function. I say
crippled, as Intel's guide to the BIOS on this motherboard is intensive.
After reading many other newsgroup posts and articles on the website, I'm
confused about one fact. Some state to change it in the BIOS, others say it
won't show in the BIOS because it's not loaded and it's a Windows function,
while others stated to change it in the video card tools program if
available. I'm not sure if nVidia or a third-party has developed a set of
tools for the Forceware line as is available for ATI products.

To Ben Myers, nice to see you still around after all these years. Bought
away from Gateway seven years ago and came back. I haven't seen a post from
Dr. Edward Neth as of late on this newsgroup.

Thanks,

Ken
