For some reason..I can only get it to burn on 4x speed...Im using windowsxp
sp2 and Nero 7...It didnt come with any software other than nero 6 oem and
even that one only let me burn at 4x speed...how do i make it burn
faster..its capable of 16x speed..TIA |

What sort of system is the drive attached to? The external connection is USB
2.0?
USB 1.1 will definitely slow down the burn rate. A slow CPU will, too.

its a HP 9705w-b usb 2.0 i believe 2.9ghz celeron processor

IIRC, Nero does some sort of speed calibration to make sure that it won't burn a
bunch of coasters. It would seem that USB 2.0 and a 2.9GHz Celeron would
support faster than 4x. Maybe USB 2.0 is still too slow to sustain anything
faster.
It would be nice to have a comparative test of the same drive mounted inside the
chassis on an IDE channel with an 80-filament Ultra IDE cable... Ben Myers

indicating the maximum burning speed possible. Some software interrogates this
information before burning, then adjusts burn rate if necessary. Other
software does not, and burns faster on a blank rated for a slower max speed.
I use 8x-rated CD blanks all the time on systems with faster CD burners, but the
software I use either does not read the burn rate from the CD or it ignores it.
As a result, the CD burner burns a lot faster than 8x, without any problems.

I just ran into that problem last night. I was trying to use a FUJI
16x disc and it would only burn at 4x. When I put in a SONY 16x disc,
it burnt perfectly at 16x. The only thing I can come up with is the
drive is only compatible with certain types of media discs. The
problem I am having with the drive is that my computer won't recognize
it as a lightscribe drive. Anyone have any clue why this is happening?
When I got it, it worked fine, but now I can't use the lightscribe
labeling. |

Did you install the Lightscribe LSS software? Without it installed no
software will recognize it is Lightscribe. You can it the most recent
version at Lightscribe.org.
