Has anyone managed to install Vista on an Abit Fatal1ty AN9 32X motherboard
based PC? If so, was it an upgrade from XP or a clean install? I have made
several attempts to upgrade XP Pro to Vista Business without success. I have
had many BODs and once past those, and on the final setup screen, Vista has
told me on two occasions that it cannot configure a system component
(without saying which) and rolls everything back to XP.

I don't have any Vista experience, but many XP installs that end with a

BSOD are caused by faulty memory. Might be worth a shot to run memtest.

The XP install on this PC, just a few weeks ago, went perfectly. The memory
is Corsair and before the Vista install I increased the chipset timings to
SPD just in case. It is not really the BSODs that bother me, they do not
happen at each attempt but this 'failure to configure a system component' is
a real problem.

A fresh/clean install rather than an upgrade did it. I now have Vista
running perfectly.
