I am having one hell of a time getting the pro 1000/MT to work in the
64 (or 32)bit slots on this motherboard at gigabit speeds. If I
manually lock the card at 100Mbps (either through the module options
or by plugging it into a 10/100 switch) it works just peachy, at
100Mbps.
If I try running the card at gigabit speeds, I get anywhere from
40-70% packet loss. I have ruled out the switch as the culprit (other
gigabit cards are working fine over it) and I believe I have ruled out
the 64-bit pci slot (I have a via velocity card that works in the
slot, it's just the via velocity hardware sucks, so I was hoping to
upgrade) I also have a 32-bit realtek based card that works just fine
on the machine and the switch.
I have not had a chance to try the intel card on another machine with
64-bit slots (as I don't have another machine with them) but any help
with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
I have a tiger MPX running:
dual athlon 2600+ MP processors
2GB of kingston buffered registered ECC ram
a radeon 7000
and the intel pro1000/MT in the 2nd 64-bit pci slot (it doesn't seem
to work quite right in the first pci slot, possibly because of the
close proximity of the radeon)
I am running gentoo linux with the 2.6.17 kernel.
Thanks,

If you do 'dmesg' do you get the line:
Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - version 7.3.15-k2
If not, you aren't using the correct driver... |

Ahh, thanks, I appreciate it. I was using the e1000 driver built-in to
the linux kernel 2.6.17
I'll double check again when I get a chance.
Thanks again,
