Hello, I have had this system running with XP SP2 and an IDE WD 80gig
drive for some time now. I picked up a SATA WD 80 gig drive with the
intention of replacing the IDE drive. If I have the SATA drive hooked
up, regardless of where, the system won't boot. It hangs during post.
I tried booting with the SATA drive unhooked and then connecting it. I
was able to go into Disk Management and format it with no trouble. But
when I try to boot with it connected, the system hangs. I have pins 5
and 6 jumpered on the drive to force 150 mode. Any ideas? Thanks!

How did you load the SATA drivers for XP? Did you go through the F6
create process?

Actually I didn't load any SATA drivers. It just worked. Except that I
can't boot from any drive while it's connected.

Are you saying that it starts to boot Windows XP and then hangs?
Go into BIOS setup and check the Hard Disk Drives priority.

Here is the way it works: I disconnect the SATA drive and boot from my
existing XP install on my IDE drive. When fully booted I plug the SATA
data cable back into the SATA drive. It then shows up under Windows
Disk Management and I can format it. Strange, huh?

My next thing to try is to disconnect the IDE drive, and try to boot
from an XP cd, install the Via Raid drivers with F6, and see if I can
format and install Windows on the SATA drive. As it stands if the SATA
drive is plugged in, the system will NOT boot from the IDE drive. I
have tried the boot priority option, I have tried the INTA and INTB
options, and I have tried with SATA mode set to RAID and IDE. I'm
about to give up on it.

Thanks for the feedback.
