|
|
Hello, I removed a second HD from my system, and my Gigabyte
motherboard is now playing a non-stop beep. The machine boots up and
runs fine. How can I reset it so the beep stops. (I unplugged the
speaker, but I know this is not the correct solution :)
Thanks in advance,

Un plugging the speaker is not the answer. The bleeps are error codes...
..you should be able to get the bios to boot, that is a single bleep and be able to enter the bios screen with just the 'bare bones'. CPU, RAM and video card connected.... yes the hard drive can also be disconnected... if all is well at this stage it would ask for the disc with the os on it.
I would have a 'toot' here http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/viewforum.php?f=48 look in the 'Reference Links' for Mobo & Bios Beep code diagnostic.
But first I would disconnect all USB devices, ie printer scanners & keyboard etc. The goal is to get the bios to boot forget about Windows etc because nothing will happen otherwise.
So we have left the Graphic card and Ram... and the good ol' power supply & Mobo... never heard a cpu causing error codes 'yet'..!
I guess all was fine until you removed the hard drive, this would indicate something has been disturbed so I would I would re-insert the Graphic and RAM cards, check all the mobo setting switches first.... or maybe there was a reason you removed the hard drive which may be concealing a clue..?

Try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card.
Do you have a sound card or an on-board chip? _________________ Guy |

Ah the penny just dropped....! You removed the 2nd hard drive
then it'll need to be configured as Master.... and if a single hard drive is used then HDD0 will have to be set in bios as the first boot device, obviously it must have the operating system on.
If I don't install the on-board audio chipset drivers I don't get the bleeps with mine, just get no sound, neither do I with the hard drive disconnected.... dunno about it being configured wrong though...?
Sorry, I missed that one.. Guy gave me a prod there ~ thanks ... ! I must have been nodding off.

Though you need to check your mobo manual to be sure...
it may just be that your machine has an intrusion alarm...
If so just disable it in the bios |
