|
|
Is there some kind of utility that will allow me to look up an IP address..
for example: 72.89.196.14 1...and determine something about where it came
from? Page stats on my website give me an IP address, and I'd like to
get a little better idea where the visitor came from.
Thanks!

Go to a web site with a whois lookup, like
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp
72.89.196.14 is in the land of verizon.
You can also do a tracert from a cmd prompt... Ben Myers

It works in that it returns a value - but is it accurate/helpful?
I put in my own IP Addresss, which is allocated to me by NTL in the
Stoke area of the UK and it came back to say that my IP was owned by
the RIPE network Coordination Centre in Amsterdam!!!!!
May be NTL buy services from this company, I have no idea , but in
terms of telling me who the IP address is allocated to - its not very
close :(
Or am I just unlucky and my entry is out of date?
