Hi Jack, don't know if this helps, it's a 90 page PDF user manual file, you might already have a copy, can't say if there's a mention of the CMOS battery replacement.
See-: http://www.acersupport.com/library/tm800ug.pdf clicking the link will open it in a new Window.

Thanks Davy..I have the user's manual, but no mention of
the CMOS battery..Probably in Service Manual. Tore the
800 apart, but couldn't find it. This Acer has been great
except for Customer Service. That is of course true for
most computer manufacturers. Would like a Ferrari with
all the bells, but can't even bring up CS on the web.
Probably because Acer is such a popular computer the
sites are overloaded. Thanks |

Hi Jack... sorry for late reply.
One good indication are the marking's on the circuit board or even on the device... having said that I have seen batteries marked as capacitors ie.... C12 instead of B1, BATT1 or even BU (Back Up), so paying attention to these may help.
They come in all shape and sizes, instead of the proverbial coin cell, they may even be soldered in types.
Also paying attention to the markings on the device, just like electrolytic capacitors these things would have a plus sign and a minus sign...!
If you can find the bios chip.... your almost on 'home base' because it'll hang around there somewhere.
