Hi,
Read that Sun and Intel signed a agreement regarding server CPUs, could
it be Itanium or x64?
..
PRESS DIGEST - Wall Street Journal - Jan 22
2007-01-22 08:57:00
Jan 22 (Reuters) - The following were the top stories in The Wall Street
Journal on Monday. Reuters has not verified these stories and does not
vouch for their accuracy.
* Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) and Intel Corp. (INTC) have been
negotiating an agreement under which Sun would buy Intel chips for use
in server systems. Such a deal would be a blow to Advanced Micro Devices
Inc.(AMD).

x64.

Looks like Sun still views as Itanium as a liability for Intel/HP:
<URL:http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37116>
| Intel CEO, Paul Otellini said Sun was a "good company to work with"
| but added he didn't want to get into the Itanium "religious war".

"As part of today's announcement, Intel is embracing Solaris as a
mainstream OS and the enterprise-class, mission critical UNIX OS for
Intel Xeon processor-based servers. In a joint press conference in San
Francisco today, executives from both companies will announce a Solaris
OEM agreement enabling Intel to distribute and support the Solaris OS
to its customers as market opportunities arise."

I would bet an obscene amount of $$$ that it's AMD64 and not
Itanic. If only I had an obscene amount of $$$ :/

Paul Otellini: "It would be the wrong thing to do to reopen the
religious war on Itanium; if they [Sun] support it then we'd love it,
but if they don't then it's a business decision on their side".
(More or less accurate quote from the press briefing, approx 34 minutes
in during questions)
