hi everybody,

i get a sun3/80 board with a 501-1402 fb, which i believe in a sun3/60
fb, right?.

i pluged a powerunit to the board and it went all up in flames :-(
after this i tried to fint out, if the 501-1402 is a 3/60 board like i
think or it is a 3/80 like the seller said. if i am right, i know why
the board went up, because 3/60 and 3/80 use the same p4 connector, but
the wires are different!

the question really is, did i damage the fb? how likely is that?
i am a bit afraid, because 1st i don´t really know that this is a 3/60
fb, 2nd don´t want the fire up a 3/60 board with a damaged 3/60 fb.

can anybody give me a feeling?

thx David

According to the information at the following link it's a 3/80 board:

"501-1402 mgfour ECL/TTL/Analog mono framebuffer 3/80 backpanel"

No, it's a MG4 for the 3/80 (and, with another backpanel, for some
other machines as well).

Usually, 3/60 framebuffers won't even fit mechanically into the 3/80
without doing major surgery on the case.

What power supply exactly?

If memory serves me corectly, it should be the right one.
According to my old FEH, It's at least the right one for the
SS1, 1+ and 2, which shared the same case together with the 3/80.

Maybe worth mentioning: Years ago, one of my 3/80s went up into
smoke because the Framebuffer wasn't seated properly.

How did you test the board? Did you mount it into a case?
Was the power supply a known good one? What components on
the board are blown?

It's a pity the machine broke. 3/80s are quite rare beasts nowadays
and not that easy to find anymore.
