Hi,

I can't really get a good answer to this question...

Does a SunBlade 1000 need to have a PCI FCAL card installed in order to use
the internal FCAL disk backplane?

If it does, are there specific Sun FCAL cards that work with the FCAL
drivers, or will generic PCI FCAL cards be ok?

If it doesn't, what could be preventing a brand new 73 GB Hitachi FCAL drive
(not Sun-OEM'd) from being detected when I run the Solaris 'format' utility?

When I first got the machine it was missing internal fans, but all the other
cabling looked to be in place. It's possible I might have missed the FCAL
cabling so next time the system is opened (need to install some more RAM!),
I'll be checking to make sure all the relevant cabling for the FCAl
backplane is in place.

Craig.

Did you touch reconfigure and init 6 or boot -r from ok
prompt so that it looks for new devices?

The onboad FCAL controller is connected to the 2 drive bay
backplane by the a short cable that connects to a connector just on the
front side of the 2nd frame
buffer slots, the lower one.

You should not need an additional PCI contoller, there is even a FCAL
connector (copper rather
than fibre) on the back of the box.
