There's a new website that offers free versions of normally paid software
for one day only. http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/hddlife-pro/ Today
(1/13/2007) they are offering HDDLifePro, looked interesting so I installed
it. One of the things that it does is tell you the amount of time that your
hard drive has been working. Readers of this group may recall that I got a
replacement hard drive for my 450X laptop about two months ago under
warranty and that I complained that it was rather noisy. HDDLife tells me
that its working time has been 11 months 23 days so clearly it was not a
brand new drive. |

Gateway, like others, often supplies refurbished parts as replacements, rather
than new ones. Dell labels its replacements as refurb, even if they may be
absolutely brand spanking new. Most manufacturers' warranties now usually
indicate that refurb parts may be used at mfr's discretion... Ben Myers

I have to dig around in the depths of software I've downloaded to find a free
utility that reads out all of the important information about an IDE/ATAPI/SATA
drive. Better a free one than paying for something no better... Ben Myers
