What kind of a cable and software do I need to transfer data from one
computer to another. The first one doesn't have a cd-rw.

It would probably be cheaper and easier to buy and install a cd burner - the
last time I looked it cost less than $30 and would be available for other
future usages.

If both computers have Ethernet, a simple Category 5 crossover cable is perhaps
the best. To use, both computers need to be setup with fixed IP addresses in
the same range, e.g. 192.168.1.100 & 192.168.1.101 and have the same mask,
255.255.255.0 .

An alternative is simply to remove the drive from one computer and install it
temporarily in the other... Ben Myers

Thanks Ben. I'll probably go the switching hard drive route.
