I am trying to get a handle on a home security arrangement when I
am away from home. I am going to create a panel in my study that shows
temperature in the house, pumps running, power failure, and so on.
I would like to have a camera focused on this so when I am away I can
access Internet wherever I am and see what what's going on in my
house.
Ideally, the system I am describing would have two cameras,
preferably wireless, with one focused on the driveway. Sound would
be nice too, as you would be aware of any alarms going off.
Any suggestions that would help me put this together would
greatly be appreciated.
I await your expert responses.
Thanks,
Tom |

Thomas Minter <tminter5@adelphia.net> dribbled from a puss filled blister
enraged mouth:
you could try a set up like mine....
a dvr card with 4 inputs from ebay £20 ish
4 cams hooked up here and there watching the house
then using webcamxp desktop streaming.... to upload every few seconds
(usually but slower sometimes )
check out my cctv ,, this also has a sound facility for one channel but i
dont use that... also does motion detection so i can check the records when
i get home.. http://82.27.65.180:8080/
cameras are ebay ones too £25 each with leds for good night time vision...
well fairly good lol, the bottom left cam at night is in total darkness but
the leds are strong and light up the messy back garden...
top left is a professional camera that switches to black and white for night
time use and catches lots of light...
top right is a door eye camera no leds so no nightvision but good when
people come to the door as i can see their face.
bottom left is cam fittted on outside wall looking across the messy back
garden again..
i used to have wireless cams but they were limited so now im fully wired..
this whole set up cost less than £150 and runs on a spare pc on my network
which is isolated so burglars wont find it.. but i have access to it using
remote desktop.
its really easy to set up stuff like this .. and all is available on ebay
from hong kong really cheap.
hope some of this babble helps lol.

www.dlink.com
www.linksys.com
both have popular cams
and if you dont have one, both have wifi routers too.
pretty darn simple stuff.
buy one cheap one with sound and get your feet wet, you'll then be able to
judge exactly what you want, should you want more premium cams.

Avoid the LinkSys wireless cam...it is a piece of crap. The setup only
