Thanks again for your help on my DVD playing problem.

Now I'm trying to burn a CD, and someone here recommended Burn4Free.

So I installed that, and I put a directory into the compilation list,
and I clicked on Burn Data or Audio, and a box asked Burn Data?...

And I clicked yes, and another box asked:
Close Disc, are you sure?

And I wasn't sure so I read the help screen and decided no, and I
changed the Preferences to uncheck Close Disc. I don't think I needed
to reboot, but I did so for other reasons.

Then I repeated the steps above, and still it asks "Close Disc, are
you sure?" and when I click No, it procedes no further.

How can I get it to burn the disc without closing it, so that I can
add more files later?

BTW, since I'm here, why is there a difference betweening burning data
and audio (and video?). Aren't they all just a bunch of 1's and 0's?

Thanks.

So I figured I'd write this one with Close, and it showed progress and
then completed, but now Explorer doesn't show anything in it, on it.

With data, don't close disc just in case you want to add more data
later. With audio, you need to close disc.

That's the problem: even though I clicked on data, it asked me at the
start if I was sure I wanted to close the disc. If I said No, it
didn't do anything. I changed the Preference to NOT close the disk,
but it asked the same question, and still did nothing if I said No.

So I said Yes, and then it wrote. One could watch each file get
listed on the screen and the progress bar.

But then I couldn't find anything on the disc.

The Help file said that Burn4Free might lock up the disc, and to exit
B4Free. I did that but it didn't help.

I couldn't read the disc until today, after I had closed windows and
turned off the computer, and restarted. That doesn't seem right.

Now I can see the directory and the files and read them, but I don't
know if the disc is closed or not, and I don't know how to tell, but
I'll bet it is closed.

After you selected the files you want to add, did you click "Add to
compilation" button?
Also, download and install ForceASPI from a link given Burn4free Faq
page, and uncheck "Internal aspi" in Preferences.

BTW, since I'm here, why is there a difference betweening burning data
and audio (and video?). Aren't they all just a bunch of 1's and 0's?

In order to tell whether the 1's and 0's represent data or audio, audio
is burned in audio (CD-DA) format and data in data (ISO 9660) format.

This looks pretty good. Thanks.

I don't have burn4free on my system, but I did use it for a long time
and it's a good utility. You need to go thru' the preferences and make
sure disc isn't being closed and permits adding data and make sure those
settings are saved. You normally never need to close a data disc, doing
so means you won't be able to add further sessions.
After you make the settings, exit and re-launch to make sure the
preferences are retained.
For an audio disc, only a single session in meaningful. These are
normally closed for maximum compatibility plus leaving them open serves
no purpose.

Thanks and thanks all. It's working pretty well now. Maybe even
better in the future. smile

Regardign a previous thread, I ordered PowerDVD OEM today. All the
sites were out of it last time I looked. The price went up from 4
dollars to 6 dollars. smile
