I have a peculiar problem with Nero 6 running under Windows XP
Professional SP2.
Nero Media Player will recognise audio CDs if I run it under the admin
account, but most of the time I use a minimum account, and Media Player
keeps telling me that it 'can't convert CD-ROM drive letter to ASPI
information, digital reading impossible'.
I'm talking about playing audio CDs here, not burning. I've adjusted
security settings, under the admin account, to give the minimum account
full control of Nero Media Player, but it hasn't helped. As I say, it
plays CDs under the admin account, so it can't be anything to do with
the ASPI layer, can it?
Yet Windows Media Player works in the minimum account, as does iTunes,
etc.
What's wrong with Nero Media Player and XP Professional? Any ideas? TIA.

Try this:

(works with 6, too)

Thanks. Though it isn't reading that the problem, not the burning. But
I'll try it.

Sorry, I wrote rubbish! I meant - it is reading the audio CDs that's the
problem - Nero doesn't see the drive, and won't play them. It's not part
of the burning process.

XP does not use ASPI, and Nero has it's own ASPI layer, which it also no
longer uses. Check your file type associations in folder options. Look for
an audio CD entry as well as "CDA" file type.

Thanks for the response. It's a matter of Nero 6's Media Player not
working in a minimum account, but working ok in the admin account. It
won't see the CD drive at all, except in the admin account.
Reading around, I think this is a limitation of Nero's Media Player in
Nero 6. It has been abandoned in Nero 7. And Nero's Show Time works OK
in any account in XP.
