I have a Toshiba Satellite 1800-314 laptop, and it's built-in CR-rom
drive recognises CDR disks and also recognises pre-recorded CDs, but
has suddenly stopped recognising CDR-W disks. When I put a CDR-W in nad
click on my F (CD) drive in Windows Explorer, I get a messagebox with
the title: "Insert disk" and the message: "Please insert a disk into
drive F:". It worked fine until recently. Any ideas?

Possibly dust on the laser lens or the laser itself.. the light is emitted from the laser reflected back on to a sensor, any dust build up will impair it's ability to read the disc.
The light is attentuated going to the disc, reflected from the disc it is attentuated again as it has to pass through the lens again.
I've known Home DVD players, the kind you have under a TV to play audio CDs perfect but not DVD's, a laser change usually clears the problem, usually called an 'Optical Block' as it contains the focus mechanism.
