You probably need to get a good quality camcorder. Sony makes
some good cams (below).

I have the dazzle USB videocapture device... it captures at a low 320x240
ish resolution, but it does both audio and video via USB - so it is really
foolproof. It comes with an application to record (and edit, if you want)
whatever video you are feeding it.
I believe my model is either the Dazzle 80 or 90. If you do a search for
"rubbertoe" on YouTube, you will see the buttloads of videos I've captured
and uploaded with that thing. Shouldn't be more than 30 or 40 bucks if you
bid at the right time.
Good luck.

If you select the Dazzle, unfortunately it will only be able to capture
audio/video via its own program. You won't be able to use it as a webcam as
well. If your sole intent is to upload YouTube vids, this would be fine -
but if you are looking for something which can also let you use it as a
webcam, you might want to choose another USB device.
I also have a USBLive capture device,
http://www.web-conferencing.ca/global/gm055801.html , which is what I used
for my webcam for several years - except it is trickier to capture audio
with that, as I'd have to jack in to the sound card as well as having the
video running through USB. Since I only needed it for a still image based
webcam, it's audio capabilities didn't matter to me.
As for what camera you should use for all this... I just got on eBay and
bought a damaged Sony Hi8 camcorder. I knew I wouldn't be needing it to
record to tapes, so I found one that worked for video - but just had a
damaged Hi8 tape compartment. Pretty much any camcorder will give you video
quality better than most webcams, albeit only at 320x240 probably.
