|

Ok, I've had an old tower laying around for a few years. It's got an
8KTA3+ board in it, and an AMD Athlon running at ~750mhz. Now here's
the rub. As far as I know, the processor is supposed to be running at
1.4 but never has run faster than 750. The cpu host clock jumper is
set to 100 (I think because one of the DIMMs is PC100) and everything
has been well cared for over the years. The BIOS version is whatever
BIOS came with the board when it was purchased in 2001...to my
knowledge it's never been flashed.
Does anyone know why the processor would be running at this speed? Is
it possible that there's some sort of multiplier issue, or that it
can't run at the fastest speed with the host clock at 100 and not 133?
I really don't know. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think AMD
even made an Athlon for this board that would run at 750. Very
confusing, and a question I've been meaning to ask for a long, long
time.
Thank you in advance,
Bryan

AMD made two 1.4 GHz processors, one with 100 MHz Front Side Bus, and
one with 133 MHz. The BIOS of your motherboard should allow you to run
with 133 MHz front side bus, if appropriate, while running the memory at
100 MHz. There is also a BIOS section where you can adjust the
multiplier for the CPU, although not all processors allow adjustment.
