Hello,
I have a Canon Lide 70 and Canon Lide 80. Each scanner has a different
driver and different versions of CanoScan Toolbox software. Is it
possible to have both drivers and both versions of the CanoScan Toolbox
on the one PC? There are five PCs in the home and these scanners will
get swapped around a lot.
Thanks for any advice. BTW the PCs are running WinXP. |

I think it is possible to have two different drivers installed at the same
time on the same computer. You may run into trouble with the same brand of
scanner wanting to install in the same folder.
Microsoft used to have knowledge base article (Q324756) about not being
able to operate more than one USB scanner at a time. I do not see that
article anymore.
Apparently Microsoft fixed that problem.
I would say try and see what happens.
If it does not work you should get some error message.

Good to known that you can now operate two usb scanners on Windows XP.
Microsoft did something good.

This is not Microsoft's fixing something. The truth is, you still cannot operate two usb scanning devices at the same time. This does not mean they can't be installed and connected at the same time.
With Canon's scanners, and I would assume with any scanner that does not access usbscan.sys the entire time the scanner is connected, you can, in fact, have multiple scanners connected and installed at the same time. You can't scan with two scanners at the exact same time. However, you can scan with one, close the driver, and then scan with another. |
