Having just had my printer die on me, and finding that printers with
good-ol' parallel interfaces seem almost to have vanished (everyone uses
USB, apparently) I was wondering what my options were (I have an Ultra 2,
with SCSI, SBUS, parallel output, but of course no USB).

One possibility would be to install a USB interface, but I cannot find an
Sbus2Usb card mentioned anywhere. Does not such a beast exist?

Alternatively, is there a simple (i.e. without wireless, ADSL, and other
such gimmicks) Ethernet to USB interface into which a printer could be
plugged, so as to act as a network printer service (not that I have much
of a network, but I do have a router with spare ethernet connections on
it)?

How about something like an HP JetDirect ? Connect printer to that and
then that to network.

Yes, I've been looking into that too, but it is amazing how many print
servers offer only parallel connections, not USB. E.g. The Jetdirect 175x
is the only one in the HP stable.

But if there was some widget that would give me USB capability which would
work with _any_ USB device (e.g. storage sticks) that would be much
better. But I doubt a Jetdirect would enable that.

Not come across anything like that, for any platform, but you never know
in the world of the web :-)

I know someone who just bought an HP all in one jobbie from COstco, that
has built in network so that he just connects the printer to the network
and then uses nework printing from his various machines. Cost 130ukp I
believe

The Netgear PS121 is such a beast.
