|
|
I must have over a hundred misc jumpers removed from old equipment. of
that entire lot, only ONE of 'em was tiny enough to use to jump the
SIPER-small J2 jumpers on the top of my Seagate ST1181677LW.
unfortunately, I need more of these tiny jumpers - I have four of these
drives in one enclosure.
I can't find jumpers this small ANywhere. even tried using a razor knife
and 'whittling some of the normal ones smaller', to no avail. also tried
cutting up a cat food aluminum tin with tinsnips, and 'folding my own'
jumpers, but that didn't work out right either...jeeze
I'm trying to do the DS (delayed start) 'thing' on the four drives,
staggered, 12 seconds per each number in the chain higher. plus I need
to change a few of the SCSI chain position numbers...
best I can measure (dial caliper), the INFINITELY tiny jumpers I need are
height: .078 inch (approx 2mm)
width (thickness): .075 inch (approx 2mm)
length overall: .141 inch (roughly 3.5mm)
pinholes, center to center: .069 inch (this one only an estimate,
impossible to measure with a dial caliper)
anybody got a dozen or 18 of these things laying around? where CAN a guy
get 'em? Radio Slack was a no-go. no other electronics type stores here,
either. I need the ones for the 'top of the board' J2 jumper settings
(DS, delayed start), but I *think* they might be the same size as the
(also "near microscopic") SCSI chain position numbers jumpers, which MY
'existing jumpers collection' had no useables for...
I'm in north central florida...
thanks for ALL help on this guys :-)

Go to Radio Shack and get some solid wire 28 awg or thinner, strip the
insulation off a few inches of it, then take a pair of tweezers and wrap it on
each of the two posts you want to connect, cutting off the wire once you've
got enough wraps. Do a decent job of wrapping on each pin and you should be
good to go...

Or try
http://www.cyberguys.com/
I think they carry them... Their shipping charges are high, IMHO, but
if you gotta, you gotta. <bg> |

Presumably by normal you mean the standard .1"/2.5 mm types?

How about other LP jumpers that are installed, but that don't necessari-
ly need to be, like Force SE and Termpower, possibly even ID jumpers
that can be replaced with standard height 2mm jumpers at the front.

You can use standard height 2 mm jumpers for that on the front of the
drive. With a bit of luck you can use common 2.5mm jumpers there too.

Well, here is a completely wild guess: SEAGATE?

They are all 2mm width jumpers, common for SCSI drives and Laptop drives.
The bottom mounted jumpers are Low Profile so that the drives can be bottom
mounted. You can't use the standard 2 mm jumpers as they will simply fall off.
You could grind them off though to a point where they don't fall off anymore.

Each Seagate drive should ship with a baggie of these jumpers. |
They're like small plastic injection mold model airplane parts - 12 on
a stick - that you twist off as needed. I bought a few drives a
couple years ago off eBay, and the jumpers didn't come with the
shipment :-(
At that time I couldn't find them at Newegg, Hyper Micro, CableGuys or
my local Frie's. Even Seagate doesn't sell them. They do have a
heart though - a little whine and some begging scored a couple
baggies.
If you still need them, send me your snail address - I can spare a
half dozen if it will do you any good.
