Is there any capture card that can pick up the digital channels on
Comcast Cable without having the decoder box involved? I hate to think
of having all that programming to record capability, and then limiting
it by having only one channel coming into the computer from the
(annoying) decoder box. This limitation is one of the points preventing
me from signing up for digital cable.

Two decades back, I remember the movement getting rid of the decoder
boxes, and adopting cable-ready TVs. You pay for the clean signal
coming into your house, and what you do with it on the inside is your
business. In the same vein, I'd really like the cable companies to
deliver a clean interpretable digital signal to my front door, and if I
want to have 8 computers in the house with capture cards going all at
once, that's my business. (...But what I really want is the ability to
program my computer to pick up programs on different DIGITAL channels,
and walk away for a couple of days.)
