all I want it to do is ftp to a web server at 1sec intervals, save to HDD in
a cycle and be able to handle 2 USB cameras (the same model)
even if it means running 2 instances of the same program
is there anything that basic ?
thanks |

Just a comment or two. FTP is is wasteful of bandwidth when no
one is actually watching. An on demand streaming setup is better
unless some of the unique advantages of FTP is needed. Also, most
USB webcams use the generic windows WDM driver that will usually
allow only one instance to be used at a time. |

just another comment.... sometimes when windows uses the wdm driver and you
have two of the cameras installed you might be able to gain access to the
other camera using its own drivers.... but there will always be clashes. and
problems like si said.
try webcamxp,, its not basic but does just about everything....
if i were you id sell one of the cameras and buy an argos cheapie..... just
to solve any driver issues...

WebcamXP sucks when it comes to stability, this software crash all the
time, it's buggy, there is 1 guy developping it, it's all messy. There
is no auto delete option. |

I disagree on the WebCamXP comment by the previous post....
I *like* the fact the the 'one guy' actaully listens to user feedback and
generally improves his product on the basis of that feedback I've been
streaming numerous cams , IP cams audio and so on and without much in the
way of issues with Webcam XP
I'd recommend it.

Hi,
you have WapcamServer which is dedicated to your usage amongst other things.
As previously said, you might have problems to setup the prog for 2 webcams on the same computer. It's buggy either on windows or in JMF or maybe both, so you might need to PC.
Otherwise I don't agree with the loss of bandwidth using the FTP method. To my opinion it is the most simple way to achieve displaying of a webcam on a website with no complicated stufff. Nowadays the bandwith is very cheap so I don't think sending 20ko or so every 2s would be very annoying.
Let me know what you think of the soft.

I do agree. Ftp is the most supported protocol by webhosts. So why
shouldn't use it?
And after all I'm interested in how good a picture looks and not how
it was transfered!
See http://www.pic2page.ch this is a nice example!
