I bought a 42" plasma tv. If I plug my laptop, running Windows XP into
it, how can I change the display output from the normal 4:3 ratio for
the laptop LCD to "Widescreen" - 16:9 aspect ratio? Thanks |

If your video card will support a 16x9 format, right click on a blank
area of the desktop, left click on properties, left click on setting
tab in the dialog box, and move the slider to a 16 x 9 or a 16 x 10
setting...
If your video card supports a wide screen setting it will work.
Maybe 1024 wide and 576 tall if your TV will support that standard, I
believe that is the old American High Definition TV standard...
Took the American TV industry years to create a HD standard, when the
rest of the world followed the Japanese. Now the US is selling
consumers TV’s with the Japanese higher resolution standards… Tis more
complicated than that, but the US standard was the odd one, when the
rest of the world went with the manufactures adopting the higher
resolution standards…
Use the lower vertical setting, to try and keep your video card,
notebook screen and TV screen happy. Then you might try moving your
vertical to 768, but do not push the settings to 1080 vertical in the
beginning as your laptop screen will probably not support that
resolution as a wide screen format.
Warning, Warning, I have pushed the screen resolution beyond a notebook
screen capability, and I had a rather difficult time returning the
settings to a resolution that the notebook could display, I only had a
blank screen.
