I'm trying to help a friend set up a wireless network but can't get her
Broadcom 802.11 Multiband Network card to work no matter what I try. I can
connect her to her broadband modem via cat5 and can get her working
wireless using a Belkin PCMCIA card from my laptop but I'm at loss trying to
get the Broadcom card to work.

Gateway's support site doesn't appear to offer any meaningful support -- at
first glance. I've tried all the tricks I know of including "Repair the
Connection" in Network Connections; uninstalling the card and letting the
system reinstall it on bootup. I'm about ready to advise her to buy a
PCMCIA card but I hate to give up on a card that should be working.

Are there any known problems with this card? Anybody got any ideas? HELP

Nope, mine works great! Does it show up in the Device Manager and under
connections (under Start)?

Thanks Bill,

Shows up in Device Manager as working properly. If I go to START | Connect
to... and select it I get a message "Windows cannot configure this wireless
connection." and directs me to the Windows "Wireless Zero Configuration"
I follow this path and, following instructions from Windows Support Article
871122, Start the utility. which doesn't help at all.

Hi Don, did you visit:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313242

The driver my MX6124 uses is this one:

~~~
Broadcom 802.11b Network Driver 02/18/2005, 3.100.64.1
~~~

I know it says "b", but they use it for "g" as well. I hope this helps.
:)

Hi Bill,

Troubleshooting following 313242 I found the following problem:

=============================
• If you can view the properties for the Wireless Connection icon, but
you do not see a Wireless Networks tab, see the "Drivers That Do Not Support
the Wireless Zero Configuration Service" section.

================================
I don't see a Wireless networks tab which kinda confirms I may have the
wrong driver installed.

Also, Gateway's site says I have an Intel wireless card based on my serial
number and Model #. I don't. I have a BroadCom card. I shows up that way in
the Device Manager and Windows recognizes it as such and shows BCMWL5.SYS as
its driver.

Gateway's site also shows "other drivers" including BCM40100.EXE which I've
DLed and am about to install. Do you have a link to your driver file or is
that simply the driver that's installed?

Thanks,

Don

How are you doing Don? Oh by the way, I believe Windows works this way.
If you have an Intel wireless card, but install a Broadcom driver
instead. It will show up as a Broadcom instead of a Intel under Windows.
So be careful. To find out for sure is to remove the panel and see what
is really in there.

The Broadcom driver is available on many websites. But if you have any
trouble finding it, just email me. Just change my address from aol.kom
to aol.com.
