Just purchased a Gateway MX6447. Way too much "free" software provided,
most without any documentation.
It has both "Realtek RTL8187 Wireless LAN Utility" and the "Broadcom
Wireless LAN utility". Is there any advantage to either or both of these in
addition to what comes with XP MCE?
Thanks, Sam |

Not sure exactly what these utilities do, but if they do any sort of diagnostic
testing at all, they are worth keeping, same as any other hardware-oriented
utility software... Ben Myers

If you want the built in wireless card to work, you better kept them. As
it won't work without it.

Looking at what the OP said again, I doubt that there are two wireless cards in
the computer. Realtek is often the supplier of 10/100 Ethernet chips for
integration onto a motherboard. Broadcom is a player in both 10/100 wired
Ethernet and wireless. I'll bet that the Realtek chip is for 10/100. Same
reasoning applies no matter what. Both utilities are essential to the proper
functioning of the chips with which they are associated... Ben Myers

Yes I know, but the OP stated they said wireless in each of them which
is confusing to me, since the "Realtek RTL8187 Wireless LAN Utility"
shouldn't have anything to do with wireless AFAIK.
