Well, you COULD go buy your copy of XP ... and install that key,
then SP1 will install.

I would have told you, but you didn't say which version of WinXP you are using.

Let me guess, you're using the FCPGW key? |
Tough ***. Try buying it next time.

SP1 isn't the problem, you are using a pirated key/copy of the OS. You
need to go and buy a legitimate copy to install SP-1. |

If you have an original copy of windows xp. it has a feature in control
panel called windows update. This feature automatically updates your xp
to latest patch whenever MS issues as update for xp.

How do you know that he hasn't paid for his copy? Surely it's not |
impossible that somebody owning a legitimate license for the software
could find their key blacklisted due to some pirate having generated the
exact smae key using one of the key-generating progs that are available?
If these progs work by generating keys until one is produced that works,
there must be at least some small probability that the key generated
could belong properly to a legitimate user who hasn't got around to
downloading the latest service patch. In fact, if the key generators are
any good, perhaps it's more than a small probability or am I not
understanding how this anti-piracy measure works? |

AFAIK, the anti-piracy in SP1 reacts to specific pirated keys that
are floating around. |
