|
|
Ok so right now my system is currently acting a little screwy. It will shut
down perfectly fine, but it will not start back up. I have to switch the
power supply off in the back and let the charge drain, then it will start
back up normally.
So the question is, is the power supply going or does the motherboard have
the problem?
I don't expect any of you to actually know, but any experience with an issue
like this might help. Both should be under warranty so I can get an RMA,
and it's not the worst problem to have. Thanks in advance.

It could be either one but I'd lean to the PSU. You have to borrow another
PSU to test it. You don't need to remove old or install the new to test.
Just plug in the connectors. I have actually put two computer towers next
to each other and tested that way.

Sounds like garbage psu from here. Try buying something decent, I'd
suggest Enermax or Antec. Cheap psu's rarely save you any money. |

Uh yeah, it's a very good quality PSU. Ultra X connect 2 500watt. So try
again, I've been around long enough to know what to buy. In fact I believe
it has a lifetime warranty... so again i'm not worried.

Well something blew, cause now the system is totally shot. Trying to
startup or discharging makes a electric crackling noise. So either the
board is blown (god I hope not), or the PSU at it. Not happy, but I figured
I'd keep this going since I'm pretty sure I'm no longer a fan of EPOX
boards..
This is the third board I've had of theirs take a *** before it's time....

Problem solved, it was the PSU. Pisses me off how this was supposed to be a
really good quality PSU... oh well I'll just get a RMA. At least it wasn't
the motherboard.

6 years old and still running [motherboard outlived two psu/s] -
My next board is probably a Epox... [but not many folks around here
[California] sell 'em.

Can I ask why you thought it was the mobo acting odd? When the diagnosis
clearly indicated the PSU?
I understand your prior bad experiences likely biased you towards the
system board, but I have had many Epox boards, each one has had fire and
brimstone experiences, sparks and smoke, and yet they still work! Well,
don't use a certain USB port on one of them or the fire department shows
up... |

Because the problems could have easily have been a blown or bad cap that
would also lead to the same symptoms, at least in my mind.
Oh, and as an update, the replacement PSU doesn't seem to have enough juice
as it cut out on me randomly a few times. So I have ordered a 700watt PSU,
but the power cutting out during a boot up killed my OS, so I'm pretty
pissed. If a windows repair doesn't fix it, I'm in deep ***. The data is
all still there on the raid, but it doesn't want to boot... so not sure how
to go about this all just yet.
