Hi

I have an eMachines 3260, and I'm trying to identify the motherboard
(ideally without opening the case - it's in an awkward place and used almost
all the time).

I found out once from emachineupgraders.info, but I didn't make a note at
the time and now their site seems to have disappeared and turned into a
general search portal.

The eMachines site just describes the external connections and says the
graphics are "Intel 845GV Extreme Graphics" - no decription of PCI
connectors or anything else internal.

I want to upgrade the graphics, and I don't want to get an AGP card only to
find out it only takes PCI. I'd also like to upgrade the memory - it's
apparently fitted with "256MB DDR", but no mention of memory speed.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of this information?

Thanks in advance.

Odds are your computer has only Intel's built-in "Extreme" graphics, and no AGP
slot. There are very few PCI cards which would truly upgrade the graphics. If
you look very hard and spend a lot of money, you can find a PCI graphics card
with 128MB or 256MB of memory AND a slow PCI slot connection. eMachines does
not usually provide hardware with a lot of bells and whistles, like AGP slots.

According to info I have found on the net, the 3260 has a 2.8GHz Celeron CPU.
The front side bus bus speed is either 400 or 533Mhz, probably the former. To
be safe, get good quality DDR (not DDR2!) memory rated at either PC2700 or
PC3200. Either will work, regardless of front side bus speed... Ben Myers

According to the spec sheet I had printed out on my T-2958 eMachne [which is
comparable], FWIW... shows FSB 533 MHz, with 512MB DDR [PC 2700].

All it said about graphics was Intel Extreme Graphics 3-D with 64 MB Shared
Memory.
HTH...

None of the emachines with 845 chipsets ever came with AGP slots.

Thanks very much for your help. I've just managed to get some information
from PC World, where it originally came from. Apparently it's fitted with
PC3200 DDR RAM, and has an Intel D845GVSR "Sea Breeze" motherboard

http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D845GVSR/index.htm

As a couple of people have said, this has no AGP socket, so I'm thinking of
putting an ATI 9250 - based PCI graphics card in it.

Cheers.

Glad you found the accurate information... I didn't have the SR motherboard.

Ben always gives good advice, as you've confirmed. Good luck!
