My experience with Skype is that the webcam (Lyromedia eBay
Gizmo Box £5.99) has a built in microphone, the monitor speakers
deliver the sound, and Skype has both a My Contacts phonebook
as well as a keypad.
Two potential problems, some versions of Skype video don't
work, Skype support advised against installing earlier versions,
but I P2P downloaded an early version, it worked.
You may depending on physical separation run into microphone
feedback, I didn't, but Poundshop occasionally do headsets with
a mic on a tube, bit like the call centre Plantronics ones, but
probably inferior to them.
When you register with Skype they give you a small Skype out
credit, so you can call overseas landlines at 1p min, it works.
Skype PC to PC calls are free.
I suspect Skype doesn't carry the call, just sets up the IP link,
by entering the IP addresses and ports into its software.
The Skype callbook is good, you can search by name and
country. |
