Before buying a new computer, I backed up all my files from the old one
on to cd-rom. When trying to load all the files on the new computer
I'm getting the message that I need to make the disk "read writable"
and they are now read only files. This is happening in quickbooks and
word. Can anyone advise how to fix this?

When you placed the files on a CD, they all became READ ONLY. There is
a program you can use (readonly.zip) that can change such file in mass.
If you wish to change individual files you must highlight the file in
Windows Explorer and in Properties, change the RO attribute.
