I'm configuring a 4 CPU compute node (2x Opteron 280) to add to my small linux cluster and was looking at the Tyan S2877G2nR with has 6 DIMM
slots instead of the usual 8 for most of the Tyan server boards. I was planning on running 4 GB PC3200 ECC RAM using 4 DIMMS.
My question is this - will there be a memory penalty with this board with 4 1GB DIMMS (2 each bank). And, if no penalty in this configuration,
if I fill all 6 banks in the future to increase the memory, will the performance suffer as a result?

Also, what are any other downsides to this board, say compared to the Tyan S2892 board (both have integrated graphics)?

Thanks for any info or opinions on this.

John H.
