|
|
Hey folks,
I recently tried to copy data onto CD-RWs using Window XP's default program. I find the program cumbersome. The message I get when I want to add data to a CD-RW is that I should insert a blank CD-R or RW. But the thing is -- the disk is only half full. What the heck? Anyone else had similar probs? Do disks have to be formatted first?
Which program is simpler/better to use than Window XP's own? I just want a program that will allow me to copy more data on half-full RWs without hiccups and without fuss.
Here's what's in my PC:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ BARTON V 2167 MHZ
ASUS A7N8X-E DELUXE NFORCE2 LAN DDR400, sata
Samsung 160GT S-ata 7200rpm
512Mt 400 MHz DDR CL 2.5 DIMM
LG DVD+-RW DVD Writer 8X
Please advise soon...
Cheers,
RS |

Your burner came with software, and it's usually recommended to turn off
Windows burning service. (Admin tools - services)

Hi,
Can you clarify something?
You say you want to add data to a CD-RW, but what does that mean? I use
CD-RW with the UDF format and this allows you to treat it just like a
removable hard drive (or floppy) with a drive letter. You can add and
delete stuff all day long.
My guess is that XP will treat it as a multi-session CD-R (but with the
ability to bulk erase it later, but without the ability to delete
individual files) is that correct?
My guess is that XP isn't doing the above in an intuitive way? No
surprises there! Have you looked at the options in XP to see if there's
anything related to multi-session?
Out of interest, does XP support writing direct to UDF formatted CD-RW
disks via a drive letter?

Thanks Gerry et al. for the responses,
Gerry, I half-filled a CD-RW with data, and am unable to add more onto it. I've tried, but it says my CD-RW is full. No intuition on the PC's part. Tried to drag files to drive E.
The other major prob is that I can't access my desktop, since I have a wininet.dll file missing (caused when I was removing frigging spyware). I want to get into ADMIN TOOLS - SERVICES, so that I can alter my XP settings (for multisessioning) so that I can start burning.. Anyone know which folder it's stored in?
Ok, you folks aren't, for sure, using XP for burning -- what are you using then for disc formatting and data burning? I'd like to go the Nero 6.6 route, but what's your feedback on the program?
Just want a simple formatting and burning solution -- nothing complicated.
All advice will be appreciated!
Cheers,
RS ;-) |
