My computer has been broken for almost 4 months now retard which is totally unexceptable I know. It's been more of a time/money issue than just letting it go though. self-satisfied smirk

Okay, heres the problem. When I press the power botton on my computer everything starts up just fine. The little light that shows you that the computer is thinking turns on, but after about five seconds it goes out. All the fans are spinning and equipment is whirling but the screen is still blank. There are no familiar beeps except for the one right at the start. I've checked to make sure the harddrive is work and it sounds fine. Everything else seem to be operational. If you have any ideas please give them to me. My E-mail is MillerXD@gmail.com I don't have aim or msn on this computer but I do have the g-mail chat.

I really hope someone can help me fix this very serious situation. smile

Thanks

If you are not getting the bios post beep when you power up, nothing else will happen as this is the bios doing it's Power On Self Test, are you getting this beep..? If not I'd check either the bios memory retention battery, this looks like a litlle coin type cell ot the powwer unit.

Do note..!
Once removing this you have no more than a minute to put it back or replace it otherwise the bios will default to the factorys settings.

It always proves useful to try a known good power unit as the first step as the slightest of HF ripple from the switch-mode primary can cause all sorts of problems, you start the get this when electrolytic capacitors start to fail due to their ESR rising, at least it will prove one point.

A computer will POST beep with just the RAM and Graphic card, obviously we need the cpu as well but no other drive..! The way things work is the bios runs a check if all ok it'll give a beep and kicks the CPU out of bed telling it to take over control and then loads Windows and other stuff from the hard drive into ram.

Sometimes re-inserting cards will help particularly the RAM and Graphic, the first aim is to get that bios beep.

ok,

the problem is still here.

I dont get the bios beep and the machine will startbut giving no signal to monitor but the fan etc etc will run. I have tried removing the graphics card and the ram and puttin them back but that seems to have had no effect. I have tried putting another graphics card in but the machine simply wont start. It seems to start every now and again but sometimes it will just remain dead.

I think from what you have said it could eb the PSU. If this is the case i cant get hold of another one at the mo so should i buy a new one? and to be honest im not too sure which one i would need so any advice would be much appreciated

Cheers
