I've noticed on the internet there is tons of info on what brands of
cd-rs and dvd-rs are best but very little on flash drives. Does the
brand or size (mb, gb) matter when it comes to flash drives? If brand
does matter, I'd like to hear which is best and why. |

Just pick a well known brand. The size matters, the greater the (mb, gb) |
the more data can be stored.
One problem I've run in to is getting reliable installation on win98se
machines. Winxp no problem. Other os's no idea. They are great little
devices and prices are coming down.

Yes the brand matters in relation to speed.
Certain models are faster than others even from the same manufacturer.
PC Pro magazine tested 30+ different USB2 models a few months ago and
despite being indentical spec there was a 40% difference in speed between
the fastest and the slowest.
Verbatim, Corsair & Kingston came out tops.

I never looked at speed specs before I purchased. I have the Sandisk |
Micro Cruzer which I don't see on that list. My differential backups are
very fast. It's way faster than a flash card in a 1.1 card reader.
My complaint (not a big one) is I cannot power up the machine with the
device plugged in, it makes winxp load slow and causes problems and
can't be used. It's ok if I do a warm restart. Doesn't have problem in a
friend's machine. Maybe it's a bios issue. Also problems in running in
older win98se machine. Driver loads but machine crashes when device is
plugged in.
