Need to flash the bio on my old 1993 Gateway 2000 486DX66 with a Micronics
MB and a Phoenix bio. Anybody out there happen to have the bio file.
Thanks

I may still have some of the old Phoenix BIOSes for Micronics motherboards.
Gateway used 4 different models, one with only ISA slots. It's been a long
time. I once sold $149 processor upgrade kits for these systems.

I forget the Micronics model/name of the earliest two motherboards, but the last
two were JX30 and JX30G. The BIOS in the only with only ISA slots cannot be
flashed because it has a BIOS in EEPROM.

RSVP with the motherboard identification, from either what you see on the BIOS
screen or an exam of the stickers and silk-screened print on the motherboard.

More importantly, can you explain the problem you want to solve? Sometimes
there are other solutions and sometimes flashing the BIOS is not the answer.

Gateway also used 486 boards designed by Anigma. Better that you do not have
one. They were definitely an enigma... Ben Myers

Hi Ben

I remember you from those good old days. The motherboard was a micronics
and the bio was a Phoenix 486 ROM BIO PLUS Ver 0.10GLB01. That's the file
I'm looking for.
The computer was running fine on win98se when the bio battery failed.
Replaced battery and the required bio info but it wouldn't boot and windows
said there was a registry problem and file problem. Booted to dos to check
things out and found all kind of file names had been changed to every kinda
ASCI character you can think of. Time to format and reinstall. Every time
I try to install win98 at near the end I get a message about win98 and bio
compatability and message to update bio. I also get a message that windows
hasn't identified the computer. I can finish the install and get windows up
but it only sees the 2 HD's. No lpt1 or comm ports or CD and it won't
install them. Figured maybe something happened in the bio and if I
reflashed it would solve the problem. Sort of strange case. Any ideas will
be appreciated.

Can you clear the CMOS with a jumper on that board?

I have a switch for normal bio or recovery mode. I have sort of forgotton
what it does, but think it lets you boot the computor if there is a bio
problem so you can flash the bio.

Hi Ben, nice to see your still here. Just for some info, my
"anigma" system still runs after all these years. Running windows
95(originally windows for workgroups) with I think 24mgs ram, and a
cardinal sound card. Dx266 was my first "real computer" after flitting
with commodores which I had a blast with, and their "amiga" line of
computers which was short lived.
The dx266 is only on its second battery after all these

years. My grandkid uses it to type home work on. Hes in 2nd grade, and it
has some of the old type games on it, which seem to amuse him. LOL

Much regards Jerry
