Howdy: I have several mini CD-RWs that I bought from RIMA that I can't
seem to burn any data onto!

I've used Nero and Burnatonce and neither one puts any data onto the
discs. Both programs go through the motions of burning and Burnatonce
will finish with a successfull burn, and Nero kinda just freezes when
it is done, like just before it says that it has a successful burn.
When I go to check the data on the disc it is no where to be found.
Running CDSpeed v4.51 it recognizes the disc as a Plasmon, 188MB and
burn speeds of 4X, 8X, 10X & 12X, although 10X is the max stated on
the media.

I have even taken the discs and run them through the Erase cycle, just
to be sure. I have burned mini CD-Rs with my burners before with no
problem. Why not the RWs?? I am using two Lite-On burners, the
LTC-48161H and the SOHW-1693S. Both have the latest firmware updates.

Could some one please shed some light on this problem?? Thanks.

I have always had some problems with RW media (various burners).

One brand would work fine. Upgrade my burner, and it no longer
works ... another brand works fine. No problems with -R media
though.

I usually just find what works and use/do that.

After the 'burn', what does the Info screen show? Is there a session
written or not?

What speed are you using?

From the fact that the burn is initiated, the calibration must have
succeeded. That implies that writing is possible. From the fact that no
burn happens, I'd infer that the discs are bad (won't take writing
outside the calibration area) or that you're trying to write too fast
for the disc to believe.

One other possibility is that you have the wrong sort of erasable disc.
They come in three flavors: unmarked, HighSpeed, and UltraSpeed. The
speed is written vertically in the logo on the package and on the
faceplate of your drive. (If there's no indication, it's unmarked.) They
should match. If they don't, some drives will succeed in getting
something onto the disc, though usually with substantial errors.

Note that there are no such flavors for write-once discs (CD-R), but
that there is still an optimum speed for burning a specific line in your
drive, where optimum means fewest errors.

P.S. The disc info screen in Nero says that the disc has no MRW
format. Does that mean anything or help ID the problem? And if so,
what? Thanks.

The screen progress bar goes to 100% and the buffer is empty. In the
windows below that it says that for 'Action' it has 'Idle' and it just
freezes there. I can move the mouse and but can't move the window.
When I hit the eject button on the burner the window pops up that says
"Congratulations....successful burn...etc, etc.

Tired all speeds up to 10X. Mostly at 4X which is the lowest that Nero
will let me burn. Nero CDSpeed says that the disc is empty after the
burn, and I can't access it in Explorer. Just says that that drive is
not available, Retry, Abort type thing.

The discs have no markings on them at all. RIMA says they are Ritek
discs and have a top speed of 10X. Markings on the inside ring of the
disc are RWD21A-00003. My burner can handle up to 32X for CD-RWs,
Ultraspeed discs. Does this mean that my burner will only burn
ultraspeed discs?

FWIW = I tried burning a 'regular' CD-RW, a full size disc, and it
worked just fine.
