Hi,

I wish to purchase a Seagate hard drive for my NF7-S2 motherboard but
I'm a bit stumped about which HD would be compatible with this
motherboard. I looked into the specs of the motherboard but there's too
many things I don't know about ... Anything I should look for when
purchasing a hard drive to make sure it's compatible ?

Thanks,

Daniel

I know your board supprts ATA (PATA), so any regular ATA drive should

work. If your board also supports Serial ATA (SATA) it probably only
suports the early version, SATA 1. Your board does not support SCSI, so
avoid those drives unless you've added a scsi controller. Safest is any
standard ATA drive.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Here are the specs of the board:

Based on that you'd still say any standard ATA drive would be fine ?
Also, is PATA and ATA the same thing ? Thanks again!

Would something like this work: http://tinyurl.com/fg4oc

It's apparently an Ultra ATA/100. I also checked out others which have
SATA but from your advice it's probably not the early version ....

yes, it would work, but that's not a good buy. For $99 you can get a 300GB
drive. Check pricewatch or Sunday paper.

Yes.

That's the general rule. ATA is by default Parallel, SATA is serial.

ATA on its own is confusing, whilst it is normally PATA, Serial ATA is
actually SATA. Your MB will support either PATA or SATA. Connection of the 2
types is different.

Serial ATA (SATA) drives should always sayeither SATA or serial ATA, and
never just ATA. If it just says ATA, it should be PATA.

Ok, just to clarify, if it says ATA or even Ultra ATA then it's what I
want, regardless of any other indication, right ?

Thanks again for your replies.
