I am using Windows98 SE and Nero6 with a
2GHz Pentium4 with 512MB with NEC DVD-RW ND-3550
I have checked the DMA checkbox in windows device manager
for the harddisk (but there is no checkbox for the burner)
The DMA check box should be in:
Control Panel, System, Device Manager, CDROM. Double-click the burner,
Settings tab.
If you don't, click "View devices by connection" at the top of Device
Manager, and then remove the controller the burner is connected to.
Usually it's Intel Bus Master IDE Controller, Secondary IDE controller.
Restart and let win98se reinstall it.

Now I have tried this (and I really thought "yes!! this must be it!")
but sorry to say, after removing and restart (and having to manually
do controlpanel - add new hardware) there is no change... still no
DMA for the dvd reader and burner.
I think a part of the problem is that it looks like this:
Computer
+ ACPI (Advanced Comfiguration and Power Interface)-BIOS
| |
| |
| + PCI-bus
| | |
| | |
| | + Standard controller for Dual PCI IDE
| | | + Primary IDE-controller (single fifo)
| | | + GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE01
| | | + GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE02
| | |
| | |
| | | other stuff
| | |
|
|
+ Standard controller for IDE/ESDI-hard drive
+ _NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A
+ COMPAQ DVD-ROM GDR8160B
(some translated from swedish)
I have another computer here were Device Manager looks like it should :
Computer
+ Plug and Play BIOS
| |
| + PCI-bus
| | + Intel 2371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
| | | + Primary IDE-controller (double fifo)
| | | + GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE<7
| | | + GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE<7
| | | + Secondary IDE-controller (double fifo)
| | | + LITE-ON LTR-16102B
I guess I should do something to make my own computer
look something like this too, and the problem is that
win98se don't identify my controller because it is too new?
MandrakeLinux9.2 linux says that I have
"Intel 82820 815e (Camino 2) Chipset IDE U100"
but maybe there is better programs that identifies
my hardware i could run? |
